THE HISTORY |
 |
A
long standing quality name |
 |
|
 |
The firm has its origins in Mendrisio (Switzerland)
where in 1550 - ANTONIO BOSSI started the organ
manufacturing.
In 1635 - GABRIELE BOSSI moved the firm to
Bergamo (Italy) until two centuries later when, in
1850 - FELICE BOSSI established it in Turin,
then the Italian Capital.
|
Here, together with his son GIACOMO VEGEZZI,
born in his wife's first marriage, he built some
of the most important organs in Turin and Piedmont
Region
In the meantime, in Centallo, a small town
close to Cuneo in South Piedmont, there was
another firm manufacturing organs which had been
founded in 1824 by CARLO VITTINO the Cuneo
Cathedral organist. The high quality of
craftsmanship and that of his sons VITTORIO,
FRANCESCO and ANNETTA, is still
visible in the many organs today played in the
region.
ANNETTA VITTINO united the two firms
VITTINO and VEGEZZI BOSSI by marrying
GIACOMO VEGEZZI BOSSI.
The two houses started a period of thorough
cooperation which culminated in 1884 with the gold
medal for particular merits awarded at the Italian
General Exposition.

Vittorio Vittino
(1841 - 1886) |
|
FRANCESCO I° VEGEZZI BOSSI, GIACOMO's
son and brother of CARLO, definitely moved
the firm to Centallo in 1908 and succeeded
in following the new vogues of organ building,
which where springing from the reformatory
movements and from the technical and cultural
needs by adopting the new international standards.
Many instruments were built in that period and
sold in Italy and abroad: Switzerland, France,
Israel, South America.
Amongst the most famous can be mentioned those for
Cuneo and Saluzzo Cathedrals, for the church of
"La Madonna degli Angeli" in Turin, for the church
of "San Pietro" in Mondovì, for the Conservatory
of Liege in Belgium and for the "Accademia
Chigiana" in Siena.
Between and immediately after the two world wars
the business had a difficult period but finally
CARLO II° VEGEZZI BOSSI succeeded in
increasing the production for the Italian and
foreign markets using the innovative electric
transmission.
|
|

Francesco Vegezzi Bossi |
His son, FRANCESCO VEGEZZI BOSSI was a worthy
member of the dinasty and he increasingly studied the
electric transmission and in particular the new
applications of electronics. He also revised the
mechanical transmission since it was revided by the
new vogues of craftsmanship both for restoration of
the old organs and for the building of the new ones.
Unfortunately he couldn't finish his studies because
he suddenly died in 1984. But the tradition is still
preserved and continued by his son ENRICO VEGEZZI
BOSSI who is passionately working with the aid of
BARTOLOMEO BRONDINO, a company partner and a
highly skilled technician, to give a bright future to
the most beautiful unmatched and unmatchable musical
instrument: "the organ". |
